I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the South African Red Cross Society. It is a very painful day for me, as I am leaving this family today. The South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) wishes to advise the public of a scam being conducted in its name by direct telephone marketers.

Telephone marketers who are not affiliated with the Red Cross are making telephone calls to members of the public claiming to be Red Cross fundraisers. The callers are encouraging individuals, some of whom have previously donated to SARCS, to switch their donations to other charities. The callers are claiming that The South African Red Cross Society is no longer in need of support from donors. This is entirely untrue. The Red Cross relies on continued financial support from the public to provide humanitarian assistance to South Africa’s most vulnerable people.

In order for the Red Cross to continue its life-saving work, we need regular donations from individuals and institutions. SARCS is taking these scam marketing calls seriously and is seeking legal advice to prevent fraudulent individuals from preying on generous South Africans. We would encourage our supporters to be aware of this scam. Donations to the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) can be made via our website or to contact our KwaZulu-Natal provincial office on 031 563 2914 or e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots.
