“Always needed – Always there” is the service commitment of the South African Red Cross Society, part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent humanitarian and healthcare movement. Organisation development and a new strategic focus have created this challenging three-year renewable contract to lead, direct and implement the Red Cross programme in Gauteng and adjacent provinces, ensuring that volunteer training, resource mobilisation and skilled support staff are effectively co-ordinated in local communities.
Key Performance Areas include:
- Leadership, strategic planning and direction and co-ordination of all Red Cross humanitarian and healthcare projects in Gauteng and adjacent provinces
- Development of pro-active, multi-skilled district and local branches in all communities
- Mobilisation of provincial resources and support for Red Cross projects
- Co-operation and linkages with government and business
- Training and development of skilled volunteer groups and committed support staff
- Effective financial planning, administration and controls.
- The ideal candidate for this senior position will be:
- A widely experienced, hands-on manager, with proven skills in project planning, management and people development, especially in community-based organisations
- Computer literate - MS Office
- Skilled in negotiation
- Ability to work with matrix structures
- Pro-active, energetic and positive
- Competent in financial planning, monitoring and control
- Well networked in the province, with established contacts in the business and government sectors, as well as civil society
- A deep commitment to the humanitarian principles of the Red Cross Movement
- Able to interact and lead effectively across diverse cultural and language communities.
Candidates should preferably possess a relevant post-matric qualification, with at least 5 years effective experience at senior management level in a service-driven environment. Competent candidates from historically disadvantaged groups are encouraged to apply.
