The South African Red Cross Society has launched an appeal to the South African public to donate funds to aid the victims of the New Orleans disaster.
The Health and Human services estimate that up to 90,000 square miles in the affected areas have been left without food, water, medical attention or basic sanitation and there is an imminent threat of cholera and typhoid epidemics.
All funds collected will be transferred to the American Red Cross Society to bring desperately needed relief to the survivors.
“This is a natural disaster which will have unparalleled repercussions and South Africans, known for their caring spirit, are being called upon to give generously within their means. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help bring relief to our global brothers and sisters who have lost everything.“
