World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day - 8 May
On 8 May the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, consisting of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, will celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day under the theme "Together for Humanity".

The Red Cross big five marathon & half marathon
The Big Five Marathon® in South Africa which is to be held among the wildlife of the African savannah. The race brings together long distance runners from all over the world in one of the most spectacular “Big Five” game reserves in Africa. In these magnificent surroundings, one can combine exciting game drives on board custom made Land Cruisers with one of the most challenging marathon routes on the Adventure Marathon® circuit.

World Aids Day
The Coastal Branch held its World Aids Day celebrations on the 29th of November 2007. The event was attended by members of the community, volunteer caregivers, OVC, clients, Branch committee members, facilitators and staff. The branch was extremely blessed to have representatives from the National Youth Peer Educators Revision workshop also in attendance.

Humanity in Action
During a First Aid Training course in Ladysmith, it was brought to the attention of the SA Red Cross Society that a family of two, a brother and a sister, were unemployed and had to eat cow dung wrapped in leaves to have food in their stomachs.

Flood Disasters in Greyton 2007
Between 20 and 26 November 2007 310mm rain fell in the wider Greyton/Genadendal area.
2005 total rainfall for Greyton was 502mm to put this in perspective. Thus 2/3 of the average total rainfall fell in just 3 ½ days.

International Red Cross Day
The Movement marks this day by highlighting the role of its staff and volunteers in saving lives and assisting vulnerable communities around the world. The theme of this year’s event is “Together for Humanity”.

World Disaster Report
The Federation in South Africa, in conjunction with the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) successfully launched the World Disasters Report 2006 at the Sandton Convention Centre, in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Thursday, 14 December 2006.

World AIDS Day roundup
World AIDS Day was commemorated by the South African Red Cross Society’s national office by holding a candle-lighting and remembrance ceremony, followed by the launch of a promotional DVD highlighting the challenges of young people in the townships of Cape Town.

The King and I causes a stir at Red Cross
The South African Red Cross Society has been fortunate to secure an opening night of the enormously popular Cape Town Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s production of “The King and I”, on 5 October 2006, at Artscape.
