World Disasters Report 2005 to be launched in South Africa on Wednesday 5th October 2005.
There has always been a belief that disaster management begins with information and information technology has helped gather and store huge amounts of information, but do people affected by disasters get enough information?
It is against this background that this year’s World Disasters Report 2005 will focus on information in disasters and considers the quality of the communication that takes place between those involved in disasters and on what impact this information has on the people caught up in a crisis.
The devastation and catastrophic effects caused by tsunami, HIV and AIDS, drought, flooding and more recently Hurricane Katrina are the major highlights. Johannesburg will once again host the launch of this 13th report at The Rosebank Hotel,Corner of Tyrwhitt and Sturdee Avenues,Rosebank, Johannesburg.
