Strategic Partnerships
Government of the Republic of South Africa (RSA)
Prior to the statutory meetings held in Geneva in November/December 2003, the national society organised a coordination meeting with the government and invited Movement partners. The meeting provided a forum for the Red Cross and government to prepare for the statutory meetings. The coordination meeting will be organised on a regular basis (e.g. bi-annually) to exchange information and discuss common concerns.
The implementation of The South African Red Cross Society and Legal Protection of Certain Emblems Act, No. 10 of 2007, as well as subsequent work that continues to be done to date, clearly reflects, the governments continued support of The South African Red Cross Society’s humanitarian service.
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (The International Federation)
Cooperation and working relationship with the ICRC and The International Federation continues in a professional and supportive manner. Both organisations have Regional Offices in South Africa. At the beginning of 2004, the president of the South African Red Cross was invited by the standing commission as one of the two representatives from Africa for the ad hoc working group established to strengthen the implementation of the Strategy for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Movement partners have continued to work with the South African Red Cross Society to ensure the successful implementation of the Strategy.
Partner National Societies (PNS)
PNS’ continue to support the work of the National Society. To date, the British Red Cross, the Norwegian Red Cross and the Finnish Red Cross, have all deployed Delegates to work closely with the National Society in the implementation of numerous programmes.
Foreign Missions, International Organisations, NGOs and Corporate sector
The National Office of the South African Red Cross Society is based in Pretoria. It is therefore strategically placed, to interact and maintain close relations with government, foreign missions, international organisations and NGOs at national level.
Over the years the South African Red Cross Society has continued to work with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSRI) Departments of many prominent Companies to ensure that it has the financial support it needs to effectively deliver humanitarian assistance.
